    The Sound of Freedom

We were pleased to attend a Preview Screening of The Sound of Freedom on Monday August 21st ahead of its Nationwide release in Ireland on September 1st.

The central focus of the film is on the Trafficking of Children for the purpose of Sexual Exploitation and for the first time in our memory, the issue of Child Trafficking appeared on a cinema screen in Ireland. It offers a powerful insight into how worlds of Trafficking can operate, how the identification of victims is such a crucial first-stage in rescue and confirmed the importance of training for front-line workers who are best-positioned to reach victims.

The film is a Hollywood-style blockbuster and follows a federal agent who, “after rescuing a boy from ruthless child traffickers, learns that the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death”.

The film offers a great jumping-off point to open up conversations in Ireland on Child Trafficking. It provides the general public with an insight into what can happen in some Child Trafficking worlds and affords all of us an opportunity to explore, in-depth, how our own National responses operate in relation to identification, intervention and safeguarding.

If you would like to learn more about the film, we encourage you to visit the films website – and if you have already viewed the film and would like to book an educational workshop on Anti Child Trafficking responses, please do contact us directly here, we would be very pleased to discuss your needs and to continue the very valuable conversation which The Sound of Freedom has initiated for so many of us.
